iDEAL is an online payment system for digital account-to-account payment options that originated in the Netherlands. We offer this payment option together with our partner Stripe.
This payment method is based on the concept of online banking and allows your customers to pay directly from their bank account. After confirming an order with this payment option, your customers will be redirected to their own online banking where they can authorize the transfer immediately. The payment is confirmed directly and the order value is transferred to your business account in a matter of seconds. This efficient payment system offers you the option of cost-effective and risk-free real-time payment processing. Further you can assure your customers that no sensitive information, such as account numbers or credit card numbers, need to be transmitted to you as merchant.
Please note that in addition to a payever account, you must also conclude a contract with iDEAL in order to use this payment method. To receive a quote, please contact support@payever.de for a personalized offer.
Once you have concluded the contract with iDEAL, you can install and configure the payment option in your payever account in CommerceOS.
How does iDEAL work from the customer's perspective?
When selecting iDEAL as a payment option in your checkout, your customers can select their bank from a drop-down menu that includes most consumer banks in the Netherlands. After selecting the bank and confirming the payment option, your customers will be redirected to their bank's login page.
Depending on your customer's bank and the device they are ordering from, they will log in using a security feature of their choice (e.g. Face ID, fingerprint, QR code or their login details). After logging in, they are asked to authorize the requested transfer with one click and the payment details are pre-filled in the checkout based on the invoice.
Who can use iDEAL?
To set up iDEAL in your store, your company must be based in the Netherlands and have a current business account with a bank in the iDEAL Open Banking Ecosystem. Below you will find a complete list of all institutions through which you can receive transactions with iDEAL.
To pay for an order with this payment option, your customers must have access to online banking. Settings
After returning to payever, make a few more settings and then click on Save and Done.
Merchant covers fees: Here you can choose whether the merchant or the customer should pay the fee. You can pass on the fee to the customer, but please note that in many countries it is mandatory to offer at least one free payment method - i.e. if you decide to charge the customer for iDEAL, you maybe have to offer for example prepayment or direct debit free of charge.
Redirect to shop after checkout: With this setting, you ensure that your customers do not remain with iDEAL after successfully completing the payment, but are redirected back to your store. We recommend that you check this option.
How should the payment be captured? Here you specify when your payment should be authorized and captured. Authorization means that iDEAL reserves the amount from the customer's credit card, capture is the time at which you actually debit the money from the customer. Both can take place directly one after the other, but also with a time lag, depending on which option you select here.
- Automatic on receipt of order = Automatic capture of the entire authorized order amount directly after completion of the checkout. If you do not have any special requirements, we recommend this method as you do not have to actively take care of anything and cannot forget to capture. Please do not tick Capture transaction manually then.
- Manual (max. 72h after receipt of order) = Manual capture of the entire order amount at any time (but max. 72h) after the customer has successfully completed payment. Please note that you must change the status of the payment in your store system in due time, otherwise the money will not be collected from the customer.
Check whether iDEAL is activated as payment option in your payever account
To do so, please return to the dashboard and open the Checkout App by clicking on the checkout icon and select Payment options in the left-hand navigation bar.
Check whether the toggle switch next to iDEAL is blue and thus the payment method has been activated.
You can activate or deactivate the payment method in your payever account at any time under Checkout > Payment options. If you decide to deactivate the payment method by clicking on the toggle switch, it will be automatically removed from your store without you having to make any configurations in your store backend (of course, this also works the other way around - when activating a payment method).
