In this guide you will learn how to generate a payment link, and the different ways to use it.
1. Generating payment links
On the dashboard, please open the Checkout app.
Click on the menu icon (three little dots) to open the quick access menu of the payment link:
- Copy pay link - Here you can access the "default" payment link of your payever account and copy it to your clipboard. This is a plain link that isn't pre-filled with any data and that can be used as often and for as long as you like. Customers to whom you send this link will have to enter all data by themselves, including the amount and invoice number/ reference.
- Copy prefilled link - With this option, you fill in the data in the preview version that you would like to pre-fill for your customer, and then click on Copy prefilled link. It is entirely up to you how much you want to pre-fill - you can only enter the amount and invoice number, or you can enter the customer's complete address and contact details. You can fill out everything for your customer up until to the step Choose payment method - from there on, your customer will have to continue by himself/herself. Once you are done filling out a step, please click Next so that the data is saved and pre-filled in the link. Note that a pre-filled link can only be used for one customer - once the customer has paid with this link, the link will automatically become invalid.
- E-mail prefilled link - This option is works the same way as option 2, only that the pre-filled link won't be copied to your clipboard - instead, a new email draft that contains the payment link will be opened in your default mail program (e.g. Outlook or Apple Mail).
- Prefilled QR-code - This option works in the same way as option 2, except that the link is not returned as an URL, but as a QR code instead (if your customer scans this with his smartphone's camera, the link will be opened in the default browser of his phone automatically). This option may be useful for you if you want to include a payment link in a printed letter, invoice or flyer (e.g. your are sending a customer an invoice or offer via post). For such use cases, the QR code is more practical for your customer than a link, as they would otherwise have to type in the long URL by hand. Note that analog to pre-filled payment links, pre-filled QR codes can only be used for one customer - once the customer has paid with this link, the link will automatically become invalid.
If the above options listed above are not sufficient for your particular use case, for example because you want to set a very specific expiry date for the link, you can find a more extensive menu in the Checkout App under Payment Links in the navigation bar on the left.
Click on the plus to generate a new payment link with additional configurations:
The following pop-up window then opens, in which you can configure various settings for your payment link:
- Link Type - Choose "single use" if the link is meant for just one specific customer, or "multiple use" if the link shall be used for several customers/ a group of customers, and should therefore be reusable.
- Expires at - Choose "Never" for a link that is valid indefinitely, alternatively you can choose 24h, 28h or 1 week.
Under Prefill edit you can find the link preview and enter the data that you want to prefill in the link. After you have entered the data, please make sure to click Save.
Last but not least, click on copy to clipboard to retrieve the URL of the link you have just generated and configured.
2. Manage payment links
You'll be able to see every payment link you created in the overview under Payment Links right away (regardless of whether you generated them using the quick access menu or the more extensive menu):
The only exception to this rule is the "default" payment link (option 1 from quick access), for which there are neither any prefilled data nor any other specific configurations regarding validity or reusability (this default payment link is not shown separately in the overview).
In the overview you can see at first glance the unique ID and the creation date of the link, how often the link has been accessed, how many payments have been completed with it and whether the link is currently active.
- Active means the affected link can still be accessed and used for payment
- Deactivated means that the link is no longer available for payment, e.g. because the predefined validity period has already been exceeded, or because a payment has already been completed with it (the latter only applies to single-use payment links)
By clicking on the symbol in the share link column for any of the payment links, a pop-up will open in which you can copy the respective link to your clipboard again, download it as a QR code or send it via email.
To send the payment link by email, please enter the recipient's email address in the field provided and click Send Email. Please note that, in contrast to the email option in the quick access menu, this will not open a draft in your own mail client - instead, the email will be sent to the customer directly by payever (the sender of the email will therefore be no-reply@payever.org, not your own email address).
Did you know that you can add your own branding and colour scheme your payment link?
You can customise the color scheme and upload your own logo! You can find detailed instructions on this in this article.
